With accommodation for 80 guests on-site, the estate became the heart of the celebration, a private setting where the wedding unfolded gradually across three days.
A Relaxed Friday Welcome for Arriving Guests
Guests began arriving on Friday afternoon, many travelling from the US and experiencing the Yorkshire countryside for the very first time. With the entire estate reserved for the weekend, the atmosphere was immediately relaxed and unhurried. Rather than a formal rehearsal dinner, Christy and Rob hosted a relaxed welcome party in the marquee. The intention was simple: bring everyone together without structure, allowing conversations and connections to happen naturally.
Guests enjoyed hearty Yorkshire-inspired dishes alongside a Dutch profiterole food truck, which added a playful and unexpected touch to the evening. The marquee was styled to feel informal and inviting, with soft lighting, relaxed seating, and personalised music creating an easy, welcoming atmosphere. Drinks flowed freely, guests mingled with ease, and the tone for the weekend was set from the very first evening.
A True “Welcome to the UK” Experience in the Yorkshire Countryside
Saturday morning began with a grab-and-go breakfast, allowing guests to ease into the day at their own pace after the first evening of celebrations. To fully embrace the setting, we planned clay pigeon shooting and archery, both becoming unexpected highlights of the weekend!
A Ceremony Designed Around English Weather
Like many US couples planning a wedding in the UK, Christy and Rob had to factor in the unpredictability of British weather. Heavy rain arrived just ahead of the ceremony, but thanks to a carefully considered plan, everything transitioned seamlessly.
The ceremony took place inside the house, originally designed as the contingency option. Rather than feeling like a backup plan, the space created a deeply intimate and atmospheric setting that perfectly framed the moment.
Light-Filled Afternoon Tea in a Walled Garden Marquee
Following the ceremony, guests moved into a beautifully designed Wills marquee set within the estate’s walled garden. This space had been chosen specifically for its light, airy structure, offering a soft contrast to the historic nature of the house and creating a fresh, romantic feel for the afternoon.
Guests were seated at round tables and enjoyed a traditional British afternoon tea, complete with champagne and cocktails. Speeches were woven into this part of the day, allowing the celebration to unfold naturally rather than following a rigid format.
An Evening Transformation
As the afternoon faded into evening, the tone of the celebration shifted completely. The ballroom space (which we’d not previously used on purpose) was transformed into a darker, more immersive space, styled with layered lighting and lounge furniture to create a sense of depth and energy for the night ahead. Guests entered to live music from a band performing upbeat funk and rock and roll, instantly changing the atmosphere and filling the dance floor.
The transition from refined afternoon tea to high-energy evening celebration felt intentional and dramatic in the best possible way — a complete change of pace that carried the wedding into its next chapter. The night ended with a spectacular fireworks display over the estate, lighting up the Yorkshire sky and providing an unforgettable finale to the day.
A Thoughtful Farewell to a Yorkshire Wedding Weekend
On Sunday morning, guests gathered one final time for a full English breakfast before departing. As a final gesture, Christy and Rob gifted each guest a hand-tied bouquet made from the wedding flowers: a simple, thoughtful detail.
