Lauren & Simon’s Marquee Wedding at Holker Hall in the Lake District

Weddings in the Lake District will always hold a special place in my heart. There aren’t many places in the UK which host the unique combination of scenic beauty, venue variety, romantic atmosphere and accommodation and activity options but the Lake District does. There are a myriad of options within the Lake District which are perfect for marquee weddings. Within the Lake District, you’ll find locations which offer lakeside views, mountain backdrops and countryside charm – all perfect for your marquee wedding.

Lauren and Simon’s marquee wedding weekend within the Lake District was no different and filled with utter joy from start to finish. The weekend celebrations kicked off at Cark Manor, a luxury property situated not far from where the celebrations were taking place at Holker Hall. Holker Hall, located near Grange-over-Sands in Cumbria, is one of the most renowned historic estates in the Lake District. Known for its stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and rich history, it offers a unique and elegant setting for weddings and events. It was here that would be host to the marquee wedding celebrations.

The couple married at Cartmel Priory, located in the village of Cartmel in Cumbria, is a historic and architectural gem in the Lake District. Established in the 12th century, it serves as a parish church today and is renowned for its stunning architecture, rich history, and serene setting. Steeped in history, the priory was founded in 1190 by William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke, as an Augustinian monastery. It was dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin and Saint Michael the Archangel. The priory features a blend of Norman and Gothic architectural styles, with notable elements from its original 12th-century construction as well as later additions and modifications.

The marquee oozed sophistication with the neutral colour palette of warm neutrals combined with rich foliage and pretty white florals such as roses, peonies, and hydrangeas contributed to a classic and refined look. Their simplicity and purity add a touch of grace and sophistication. The florals were well balanced within the marquee, from centrepieces to cascading installations, to hoops – adding visual interest and softness to the space.

Entertainment was top on Lauren and Simon’s priority list. The day began with the gorgeous sound of the string quartet who accompanied the ceremony and drinks reception element to their day. We had the pleasure of being wowed by Howard Wing who sang and MC’d for the day as well as the hooper band who performed spectacularly in the evening. Not forgetting of course, the triumph that was the father of the bride and the brother of the brides rendition of ‘crazy little thing called love’ which they’d painstakingly learnt and rehearsed over the course of many months to make the most perfect and personalised performance.

Working with a wedding planner when planning a marquee wedding is can significantly enhance the planning process and ensure a seamless, stress-free, and beautifully executed event. The knowledge and expertise a marquee wedding requires is largely different from venue wedding planning. Making sure you are looked after with my thorough understanding of logistical components, whilst guaranteeing you remain informed and empowered throughout your planning will always be especially important to me. Each marquee wedding we work on is a bespoke creation as the marquee lends itself perfectly to putting your own stamp on the space. With oodles of possibilities for creativity and exclusivity, it’s no secret that marquee weddings are the favourite (and most frequent!) weddings here at Jessica Sharpe Weddings!
