Derbyshire is one of my favourite locations to plan a wedding within. Derbyshire and The Peak District are truly areas of outstanding beauty, there is an abundance of wholesome country walks, interesting historic country estates and properties and bustling market towns to visit. When Jason & Lianna got in touch to discuss their December 2022 wedding, in mid-2022, I was super excited for their visions and realities to get underway. Jason and Lianna are research scientists who at the time were working and living between Toronto, Canada and LA, USA. Upon first chatting with them, I adored their kindred spirits and love for each other and their families and those elements were truly present throughout their day. As well as their UK Wedding, Jason & Lianna were also planning their Chinese Tea Ceremony in Toronto. I was tasked with planning the UK wedding, so they could concentrate on their Toronto wedding, from across the pond.
The UK Wedding was hosted across Tissington Hall, Derbyshire located near the market town of Ashbourne. We planned for the celebrations to be held in the newly renovated Carriage House, with the wedding ceremony taking place in the Grand Hall. Jason & Lianna wanted to plan for a fairly intimate celebration, which meant we could accommodate almost all of the guests within the Tissington estate. The venue played such a key part in the celebrations as almost all of the guests had travelled some considerable distance to be with Jason & Lianna for their wedding, so it was really important to host the guests nearby and of course, made for an incredible weekend.
After long travels to the UK from Toronto, China, USA & globally, guests were transported to a beautiful country pub for a truly British Friday evening in the pub. This was the perfect way to begin Jason & Lianna’s wedding weekend and offered the relaxed atmosphere that was so perfectly suited to them.
Following breakfast in the cottages, guests made their way to the ceremony at Tissington Hall in the Grand Hall. Tissington Hall was built in 1609 by Francis FitzHerbert to replace the moated fortification that guarded the Norman Church of St Mary’s in the centre of the village. For over 400 years the Hall has presided over this picturesque Estate Village which is five miles north of the delightful market town of Ashbourne at the southern tip of the Peak District.
Following the ceremony, guests were entertained by a classic pianist, whilst they were treated to his and her cocktails, fondly named after Jason & Lianna’s much-loved cats. Canapes were aplenty and even featured mini cones of ice cream (in December I might add!) as a homage to Jason & Lianna’s very first date to an ice cream parlour in snowy Canada way back when.
The Carriage House was an abundance of warmth and jewelled colours. From the beginning, Jason & Lianna’s brief was a classic vintage look, with quirky elective elements to compliment their personal styles. I used gorgeously jewelled tones and textures featuring 88 Events Linen and Whitehouse Crockery to create an eclectic but vintage look. The wonderful Tracey at Campbell’s used awe-inspiring floral mechanics to create the most incredible top table and pretty guest tables. The stationery was designed by Lianna herself which she thoroughly enjoyed and the place cards were lab micro slides as a lovely touch as per their professions as research scientists.
Jason & Lianna enjoyed a fully bespoke menu from Mark Hadfield which I can wholeheartedly confirm was absolutely superb. The entertainment for the evening was a wonderful combination of heartfelt speeches, a comical yet personal quiz and dancing the night away with a DJ.
The following day, guests were transported to the divine Callow Hall to enjoy a farewell lunch, before Jason & Lianna left guests to jet off for the northern lights.
It was so fabulous to plan Jason & Lianna’s UK Wedding and UK Destination weddings whereby couples live overseas are some of my most treasured. Do take a look at my ‘how to plan a destination wedding‘ blog if you’re wondering how it happens.
